Recreational Support Services
Socialization and Recreation

Having and active social life at CIP is and important component of the residential program. You will have the opportunity to develop lasting friendships and social networks though our recreational activities and social mentors.
Each week, our Residential Team plans weekend activities that provide opportunities for students to interact with each other and the community. Students provide input on activity choices and then sign-up for at least two activities each weekend.
If a student is interested in a specific activity that is not already planned by staff, they can complete an “alternative activity” form and invite other students to join them. Transportation is planned for CIP sponsored activities (and for student planned activities when possible). While these activities provide a fun departure after a busy week, they also provide important opportunities for students to continue developing their social skills and practice what they have learned in social mentoring and their social thinking groups.
Each weekend is kicked off on Friday evening with a “Grill & Chill” gathering. Each student brings an item to be grilled as well as a potluck side dish to share with the group. Throughout the weekend, students might visit local attractions such the beach, the Avenues at Viera (shopping and movies), historic downtown Melbourne, the Maxwell King Center for Performing Arts, Space Coast Stadium (Brevard Manatees and spring training for the Washington Nationals) and Kennedy Space Center. Students also often enjoy bowling, local festivals, student-hosted holiday parties, and trips to Orlando to visit theme parks, malls, and museums.
